Arta Paya, a renowned designer, has created a masterpiece in the form of a chair named Schiele. The design draws inspiration from the works of Egon Schiele, one of the greatest figurative painters of the 20th century. The chair's shape, reminiscent of a woman laying down, is a tribute to Schiele's exploration of the human form. The design's nostalgic touch is further enhanced by rich, glossy finishes.
What sets Schiele apart is its universal appeal and adaptability. The chair's usage and the feeling it imparts depend on its placement and color scheme. This flexibility makes Schiele a versatile piece of furniture that can fit into any space and environment. The chair's comfort level is maximized by the use of high-density foam in the seat area.
The Schiele chair is produced using injection moulding, synthetic plastic, polypropylene, and light high-density urethane foam. The chair's dimensions are 65cm in width, 95cm in height, and 68cm in depth. These technical specifications were meticulously researched and tested through prototype models to ensure durability, timelessness, and comfort.
The design process faced several challenges, including finding the right measurements to accommodate a wide range of people within a limited space, determining the molding process to ensure sufficient strength, and shaping the chair to fit any space and environment. Despite these challenges, Arta Paya and the design team, including Farshid Naderi, successfully created a chair that is both modern and comfortable.
The Schiele chair was recognized for its innovative design and was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017. The award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. The Schiele chair, with its unique blend of art, design, and comfort, truly embodies these qualities.
